Central Drugs at 125 East Thomas Street combines the modern day practice of pharmacy with the tradition of the friendly neighborhood drug store. Central Drugs is the oldest business in Hammond and has been operated by the Fellows family for three generations.
Dr. J.L. Robinson started the drug store in 1896. At that time it was located across the street from its present location. In 1910 Dr. Robinson sold the drugstore to Mr. R.D. Fellows and Mr. E.S. Wiseman, who moved the business into the corner building on Thomas and Cypress where it remains today. The drugstore quickly gained a reputation in Hammond as a friendly neighborhood drug store.
Mr. Donald K. Fellows Sr., nephew of R.D. Fellows, took over the store in 1948, when R.D. Fellows passed away His son, Donald K. Fellows, Jr., is the third generation owner of Central.
